MV Chamber supports county legislature reduction

UTICA — The Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors passed a resolution in support of reducing the size of the Oneida County Board of Legislators.

Currently, the Oneida County Board of Legislators is among the largest in the state’s 57 counties outside New York City with 29 members.

The chamber wants the board to eliminate 10 positions. Broome County, which is similar in size to Oneida County, has 19 legislators.

The chamber’s proposal notes the resolution to contract government makes sense in an area with a diminishing population.

According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, the board is set to vote today on a measure to reduce the legislature by six positions.
