MVCC donates ventilators, supplies to MVHS for COVID-19 fight

UTICA, N.Y. — Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) has donated medical supplies to the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) to help local health-care providers respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like many hospitals nationwide, MVHS is preparing for a “surge” of patients due to the virus and is in “dire need” of personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies and ventilators. MVCC volunteered equipment from its School of Health Sciences hospital inventory to help meet the need, and on March 31, donated four ventilators, 550 disposable gowns, 400 isolation face masks, and thousands of pairs of gloves (both sterile and non-sterile).

“The saying, ‘It takes a village,’ is reinforced by the wonderful outpouring of support MVHS has received from this community,” Darlene Stromstad, president and CEO of MVHS, said. “We are so grateful to MVCC, a longtime friend and partner, for its generosity and support. When we all get through this — and we will get through it — it will be because of the support from organizations like MVCC.”
