UTICA — The Mohawk Valley Graduate Center (MVGC) of the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland is set to open in its new home with an open house planned in early August.
SUNY Cortland announced in March that it would move the graduate center from the SUNY Institute of Technology (SUNY IT) in Marcy to the Utica campus of Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC).
SUNY Cortland decided to move the graduate center “to provide more teacher-education resources for students.” SUNY IT does not have a teacher-education program, according to SUNY Cortland.
The graduate center moved to its new location on July 1, MVCC said in a news release.
The Mohawk Valley Graduate Center (MVGC) offers SUNY Cortland graduate programs in educational leadership and literacy education, MVCC said in a news release.
The schools are planning an MVGC open house on Aug. 7 for all current students, alumni, and community members interested in the graduate center.
The event is scheduled between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in MVCC’s Excellus Conference and Training Center, Room 225, of the information-technology building at 1101 Sherman Dr. in Utica.
Representatives of SUNY Cortland’s graduate literacy education and educational leadership programs will be available to answer questions. The event will include tours and information on books, parking, and MVCC services, the community college said.
