UTICA, N.Y. — A “record” 130 students from area colleges will participate in the fall CNY Hackathon that the Utica campus of Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) will host on Friday and Saturday.

The event includes students from MVCC, Utica College, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, University at Albany, Clarkson University, Cornell University, Syracuse University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Hamilton College, and the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES Emerging Technology program, per an MVCC release.

The activities on Friday begin at 4 p.m. and continue Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The CNY Hackathon is held at MVCC in the fall and at Utica College in the spring.

 

About the CNY Hackathon

The CNY Hackathon is a two-day, regional intercollegiate offensive/defensive cybersecurity competition held at the end of each fall and spring semester.

It is designed to “improve the state” of computer science and cybersecurity education and better link academia with industry.

The event brings together regional cybersecurity students, faculty, and industry professionals to test students’ ability to “hack it” in a virtual environment that simulates cyberspace. Students participate in challenges “that task each team with defending their systems from attackers in order to maintain control,” as described in the MVCC release.
