UTICA, N.Y. — Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and the University at Albany have signed an articulation, or transfer, agreement.
It represents the largest articulation agreement MVCC has with any institution and the largest agreement that the University at Albany (UAlbany) has with a SUNY community college, MVCC said in a news release.
The agreement includes 46 majors, every school and college at UAlbany, and 100 program-to-program equivalency charts.
Both Randall VanWagoner, president of MVCC, and Jeanette Altarriba, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education at University at Albany, signed the agreement.
“Having such an agreement with [the] University at Albany allows the opportunity for students to continue on with their education without having to go too far away from home,” Michael Henningsen, coordinator of MVCC’s University Partners and Transfer Center, said in the release. “This agreement will provide over 100 transfer opportunities for not only our current students, but for future transfer students for years to come.”
MVCC and UAlbany have a previous agreement from 2016 for dual admissions into Albany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity. Transfer to this program, though guaranteed if MVCC students met the requirements, was “limited and open only to specific students.” While that agreement remains in place, the new agreement will “expand opportunities for a broader range of students.”
“This new agreement provides a substantial opportunity for New York State residents and others to benefit from the collaborations between our two campuses,” Altarriba contended. “We are fortunate to have worked with MVCC on a limited scope dual admissions agreement for our College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity since 2016. This larger agreement highlights the many paths a student can take once they transfer to UAlbany, increasing student access to academic programs that together promote and encourage bachelor’s degree attainment in a timely manner.”
