MVHS appoints Scholefield VP of facilities and real estate

UTICA, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) announced it has appointed Robert Scholefield to the new role of executive VP of facilities and real estate.

His responsibilities will include overseeing construction of the new hospital in downtown Utica, MVHS said in a news release.

Scholefield, who has been serving as COO of MVHS, will continue in that role until the organization finds a successor.

“Over the past few years, Bob has been leading MVHS’s effort on preparing for the building of our new medical center,” Darlene Stromstad, president and CEO of MVHS, said release. “He knows more about this project than anyone, and has a deep understanding of the complicated regulatory, political and construction components involved. A project of this magnitude, which will forever strengthen healthcare in this region and provide a significant economic boom to our community, requires, and deserves, the full time, focused attention of an experienced senior leader.”

Scholefield became COO of MVHS after the affiliation of Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center (SEMC), where he had been serving as COO. A graduate of the St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, he served as a nurse and later as the chief nursing officer at SEMC, per the release.

“It’s very important that we have someone’s full and undivided attention on the new, regional medical center project as it moves forward and progresses at a much faster rate,” Scholefield said. “I appreciate the opportunity to lead such an extensive project that will have a significant impact on our region’s healthcare and economy, and I look forward to working with our many community partners to bring this vision into reality.”
