OLD FORGE, N.Y. — The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways recently participated in an educational wilderness first-aid retreat in Old Forge with first-aid kits they assembled with supplies donated by Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS).
MVHS supplied bandages, alcohol wipes, roll tape, and antibiotic ointment for the scouts to create their own first-aid kits. They then learned how to use those kits to help others and earned a merit badge.
“MVHS was happy to give back to the community and support an event that teaches safety and the importance of first aid,” Tara Markert, MVHS communication specialist, said in a press release.
The Girl Scouts also heard presentations from local EMTs and nurses to learn the importance of first aid.
MVHS includes St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare, MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Visiting Nurse Association of Utica and Oneida County, and Senior Network Health. MVHS, with more than 4,200 employees, will open 373-bed Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica this fall.
