UTICA, N.Y. — After nearly four years of construction, Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) will celebrate the grand opening of the Wynn Hospital with a ribbon cutting on Sunday, Oct. 15.

The event includes festivities such as music from the band “Last Left;” food trucks; dignitaries including MVHS President/CEO Darlene Stromstad and hospital benefactor Steve Wynn; and some surprise special entertainment from 1-3 p.m. Tours of the hospital are available from 2-4:30 p.m.

MVHS staff begin operations at the new hospital on Monday, Oct. 29 at 6 a.m. Until then, patients should continue to use both St. Luke’s and St. Elizabeth hospitals for services.

MVHS is working with Health Care Relocations, a Canadian company with U.S. offices in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to facilitate its move into the new hospital.

MVHS broke ground on the $611 million project at the intersection of Columbia Street and Broadway in December 2019.

The 10-story, 702,000-square-foot hospital includes 373 beds, with each of nine floors having about 30 private rooms. It also includes 47 emergency department treatment spaces, state-of-the art operating rooms, and dedicated elevators that keep patients, visitors, and hospital operations separate.

MVHS is working with Oneida County and the City of Utica to explore options for the St. Luke’s and St. Elizabeth campuses once they are empty.
