MVP Health Care announces senior leadership promotions

In her expanded role, Gonick’s “focus will be on the vision and long-term strategy of the organization,” the organization said.

At the same time, Christopher Del Vecchio, who has been serving as MVP’s COO, will now serve as president and COO of the organization.

The health insurer’s board of directors made the changes “to drive the organization’s ongoing transformation into a growth-oriented, consumer-focused, comprehensive health-services company,” the organization said in a news release.

“We are moving at a rapid pace to structure MVP for continued growth in this constantly changing health-care industry and to ensure we remain laser-focused on the needs of our members and providers,” Gonick said in the news release. “The challenges of today’s volatile health-care climate — for providers, insurers, and individuals and families alike — make us more committed than ever to our mission of creating peace of mind for our members and to our vision of creating the healthiest communities.”

“Denise’s expertise and experience in health care leadership will be an excellent addition to an already strong board and will provide us with an even closer view into strategy and operations,” Alan Goldberg, chair of the MVP Health Care board of directors, added in the news release. “These changes will enable her to more fully ensure MVP’s continued success.”

In his expanded role, Del Vecchio will oversee all products and services that MVP offers, along with day-to-day operations, sales, marketing, and business development.

He will also be responsible for the “continued” conversion of MVP’s technology platforms, analytics, and service capabilities to “better serve members and providers and maximize the efficiency of the existing business model,” the health insurer.

Del Vecchio called it “an exciting time” for MVP Health Care.

“These changes will support the work we’ve already begun to make health insurance more personal and to keep members at the center of all we do. Our mission-based strategy of improving the health of the communities we serve remains very important to all of us at MVP,” Del Vecchio said in the news release.

The nonprofit MVP Health Care is a health insurer serving more than 700,000 members in New York and Vermont.

The figure includes more than 100,000 individual and small-group members in New York, according to a company spokesperson.

MVP Health Care operates a Syracuse office at 333 West Washington St. and an office at 421 Broad St. in Utica.
