National Grid names Bruckner New York president

John Bruckner

National Grid (NYSE: NGG) announced it has named John Bruckner, most recently the company’s executive VP of network operations, as its New York president.

Bruckner succeeds Ken Daly, who will take on the role of chief operating officer for the company’s U.S. electricity business. Both appointments are effective immediately.

“After seven years at the helm, I am delighted to hand over the leadership of the New York business to my colleague and friend John Bruckner,” Daly said in a National Grid news release.

“I am very pleased to have the opportunity to lead our New York business,” Bruckner said. “Under Ken’s leadership, we have made significant progress in delivering on our customers’ and our local communities’ priorities. I look forward to continuing our vital partnerships with customers and stakeholders …”

In his new role, Bruckner will oversee National Grid’s regulated businesses that provide electricity service to 1.6 million customers in upstate New York and natural gas service to 2.3 million customers in upstate New York, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, and Long Island. The energy company’s New York service area spans from Niagara Falls to the forks of Long Island.

Since joining National Grid in 1985, Bruckner has held a number of positions, including division manager for electric design and construction, director of transmission and distribution project management, president of Long Island transmission and distribution, and senior VP of U.S. electric operations. He was named executive VP of network operations, safety & capital delivery in August 2017, the company said.

Bruckner is a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and has an MBA from New York Institute of Technology.

In his new role as chief operating officer, Daly will lead the company’s delivery of electricity service to 3.3 million customers across New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. He joined National Grid in 1988 as a management trainee in the customer relations department. In addition to his role as New York president, he has served as National Grid’s global financial controller, chief financial officer of the U.S. and U.K. gas distribution businesses, and has held numerous positions in finance, human resources, and customer relations.
