NORWICH, N.Y. — NBT Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: NBTB) announced it has hired Angela Wolfe Kelley as executive VP and general counsel.

In this position, she will coordinate NBT’s legal activities, manage outside legal counsel that NBT uses, and oversee the bank’s relations with regulatory agencies.

Kelley will serve on NBT’s executive management team and will be appointed corporate secretary by its board of directors. She will be based at the banking company’s headquarters in Norwich.

Kelley has 12 years of corporate law experience. She comes to NBT from Heartland Financial USA, Inc., a financial services holding company based in Dubuque, Iowa, where she served as senior VP, deputy general counsel, and corporate secretary, according to an NBT news release.

Before her position at Heartland Financial, Kelley was an attorney with the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, which has offices in Minnesota and Iowa. She earned both her law degree and bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology from the University of Iowa.

NBT Bancorp is a financial holding company with total assets of $9.6 billion as of June 30. The company’s NBT Bank unit has 149 branches in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
