NORWICH — NBT Bank announced it has hired Steven Bulger as senior vice president and director of retail sales.

In this position, Bulger is responsible for developing and implementing retail strategies to support branch sales and service results, the Norwich–based bank said. He will oversee the bank’s 158-branch network across the five states it serves.

Bulger has 19 years experience in the financial-services industry, according to NBT. Most recently, he was senior vice president of retail branch operations for PNC Bank in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley. Previously, Bulger was executive vice president and director of retail branch operations for HSBC Finance Canada. Other positions he held at HSBC included senior vice president and division general manager, district sales manager, and director of sales for HSBC’s Beneficial Group, according to NBT.

Bulger earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of South Carolina. He holds a Six Sigma Black Belt in process improvement from Eckes and Associates and his executive mastery certification from Gap International.
