MARCY, N.Y. — Nearly 900 students earned college degrees in ceremonies that SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) held for the Class of 2021 in both Marcy and Albany.

SUNY Poly held the Marcy ceremony on Sunday, per a school news release.

In addition to the nearly 900 members of the Class of 2021, members of the Class of 2020 were also invited to participate after the COVID-19 pandemic limited in-person celebrations last May.

The top three degrees that SUNY Poly awarded, as measured by number of students, included computer and information science (master’s degree and bachelor’s degree, respectively), followed by family nurse practitioner (master’s degree).

Participating graduates were able to invite a small number of family members or friends to attend the ceremonies. In addition, a suite of virtual and congratulatory videos complementing a livestream of the events were provided to celebrate the accomplishments of every student, “especially in case their friends or family could not attend due to current travel restrictions around the world,” the university said.

Additionally, their respective dean also recognized those who earned a graduate degree by placing a hood over the head of each graduate, “signifying successful program completion.” SUNY Poly added.
