SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sun Country Airlines, described as an “ultra-low-cost” air carrier, will begin offering regularly scheduled flights at Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) next June.
On June 6 of next year, Sun Country Airlines plans to launch twice-weekly flights from Syracuse to the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP), the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced Tuesday.
The Sunday and Thursday air service is currently scheduled as seasonal, and travelers can book flights through Sept. 1, 2024. Nonstop flights by Sun Country from Syracuse to Minneapolis-St. Paul are expected to depart around midday.

The service will provide connectivity to major west-coast markets including Los Angeles and Seattle. The Syracuse–Minneapolis route will be served by Sun Country Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 aircraft featuring 186 seats, SRAA said.
“This announcement from our new partner Sun Country Airlines has us very excited about 2024,” Jason Terreri, executive director of SRAA, said in a release. “Bringing back nonstop service from SYR to MSP has been a high priority for both our business and leisure travelers. Restoring connectivity both to and through MSP makes it easier than ever for SYR travelers to head westward across the country.”
Based in Minneapolis, Sun Country says it offers flights throughout the U.S. and to destinations in Mexico, Central America, Canada, and the Caribbean.
“We are excited to expand our service to include another city in New York state, including New York and Buffalo. It will provide travelers with access to all upstate New York has to offer, including the Finger Lakes Wine Region and the Adirondack Mountains,” Grant Whitney, senior VP and chief revenue officer at Sun Country Airlines, added in the release.
Sun Country Airlines’ announcement brings up to 30 the number of destinations that SYR travelers can fly directly to via nonstop flights. Nine airlines now operate regularly scheduled flights at SYR, the SRAA noted.
