UTICA, N.Y. — Two anesthesia practices that separately served the St. Elizabeth and St. Luke’s campuses of Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) have formed a new combined anesthesia practice called the Mohawk Valley Anesthesia Group (MVAG) that will serve patients at both campuses.
Previously, Uptown Anesthesia provided perioperative care for patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures at St. Elizabeth, while Sunset Anesthesia provided those services at St. Luke’s. Now all anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) of the new combined practice will take care of patients at both campuses.
“This is an exciting time for healthcare in our region, and we’re so pleased to be part of this transformation,” Dr. Sunil Motta, chairman and medical director of MVAG, said in a press release. “The development of a new single anesthesia group benefits both our patients and the MVHS organization. Through MVAG, our community now has access to one robust anesthesia group with decades of experience and diverse expertise.”
Today, MVAG includes 16 anesthesiologists and 11 CRNAs, and aggressive recruitment is underway to bring on additional anesthesiologists and CRNAs to meet the community’s ever-evolving health-care needs.
“We are so grateful for the hard work of Dr. Motta, Dr. Avinash Ballie, and Dr. Sara Giorgi to get us to this point and to bringing us another step closer to one integrated hospital team,” said MVHS President and CEO Darlene Stromstad. “This is an important milestone in our readiness to care for patients in The Wynn Hospital when we move in next year.”
