New York dairy farmers get higher prices for milk in September

Dairy farmers in New York state received an average of $19.60 per hundredweight of milk sold during September, up $1 from August, but $3.40 lower than in September 2011.

That’s according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, New York field office, which also reported prices for other crops.

Grain corn prices, at $8.28 per bushel, rose 25 cents from August and 78 cents from September 2011 levels. Hay averaged $131 per ton, unchanged from last month but up $32 from September 2011 prices. Potatoes averaged $14.50 per hundredweight, down $3 from a year ago. Apples prices, at $60.20 per hundredweight, were up $20.90 from September 2011 as supplies were clipped by adverse weather conditions this spring and summer.
