Empire State dairy farmers received an average of $18.30 per hundredweight of milk sold during August, up 90 cents, or 5 percent, from July.
However, milk prices are down $5.20, or 22 percent, from the $23.50 per hundredweight that the state’s milk producers received in August 2011. That’s according to King Whetstone, director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office.
