Farms in New York state produced 141.3 million eggs in April, down 2.2 percent from 144.5 million eggs in the year-ago month, according to a report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).
The total number of layers in the state averaged nearly 5.55 million in the fourth month of 2024, off 2.3 percent from almost 5.68 million layers in the year-prior period. Egg production per 100 layers was nearly unchanged at 2,547 eggs in April, compared to 2,546 eggs in April 2023.
In neighboring Pennsylvania, egg production jumped 6 percent to more than 673 million eggs in April 2024 from over 635 million eggs a year before.
