New York farms produced 148.4 million eggs in October, down 1.9 percent from 151.3 million eggs in the year-ago month, the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) recently reported.

The number of layers in the Empire State averaged almost 5.73 million in October, a drop of 1.1 percent from 5.79 million in the year-prior period. October egg production per 100 layers dipped 0.8 percent to 2,592 eggs from 2,613 eggs in October 2020.

In neighboring Pennsylvania, farms produced 806 million eggs in October, up more than 5 percent from over 765 million eggs a year earlier.

U.S. egg production totaled nearly 9.61 billion eggs in October, up almost 1.1 percent from nearly 9.51 billion eggs in October 2020.
