New York farms produced 133 million eggs in February, virtually unchanged from from 133.1 million eggs in the year-ago period, the USDA recently reported.

The total number of layers in New York increased by nearly 2 percent in February to 5.78 million from 5.67 million a year prior.

New York egg production per 100 layers totaled 2,303 eggs in February, down almost 2 percent from 2,346 eggs in February 2016.

In neighboring Pennsylvania, egg production fell more than 5 percent in February to nearly 617 million eggs from more than 651 million eggs a year earlier, the USDA reported.
