New York egg production rises 8 percent in July

New York farms produced 119 million eggs in July, up 8 percent from the year-ago period, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York field office.

The number of hens and pullets of laying age increased 10 percent to 4.8 million, offsetting the 1 percent decline in the rate of lay to 2,488 eggs per 100 layers, according to the field office.

U.S. egg production totaled 8.29 billion during July, up 4 percent from the year-prior period. Production included 7.19 billion table eggs, and 1.1 billion hatching eggs, according to the USDA.

The total number of layers during July averaged 352 million, up 2 percent from a year earlier, the USDA reported. July egg production per 100 layers totaled 2,354 eggs, up 2 percent from July 2013 levels.
