New York egg production rises 9 percent in August

New York farms produced 119 million eggs in August, up 9 percent from the year-ago period, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) New York field office.

The number of layers increased 7 percent to 4.77 million. Empire State farms produced 2,496 eggs per 100 layers in August, up 2 percent from a year prior, according to the field office.

U.S. egg production totaled 8.39 billion eggs during August, up 3 percent from the year-ago period. Production included 7.29 billion table eggs, and 1.1 billion hatching eggs, according to the USDA.
