New York jobless claims edge up in latest week

The number of people filing initial applications for unemployment benefits in New York state ticked up to 17,046 in the week ending March 28 from 16,702 the week before.

That’s according to a U.S. Department of Labor news release issued today.

However, the number of people continuing to receive unemployment-insurance benefits in the Empire State edged down to 205,796 in the latest week from 209,271 in the prior week, according to the Labor Department data.

The state data is not seasonally adjusted.

The Labor Department also released jobless-claims data for the nation.
