ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State on Thursday reported 306 new coronavirus deaths in the last day, the lowest number of deaths from the dangerous bug in a single day since March 29.

The latest daily death total was down from 330, 335, 337, 367, and 437 in the previous five days, respectively, Gov. Andrew Cuomo reported at his COVID-19 briefing in Albany.

The number of new coronavirus infections in the Empire State increased to 4,681 from 4,585 the day before and 3,110 two days ago.

New York continues to see improvements in its hospital statistics related to the vicious virus.

The net change in total hospitalizations was negative for a 17th straight day, which means more people leaving a hospital than entering it. The net change in intubations was negative for an 18th day.

The data clearly shows New York is nearly three weeks along its path on the downward curve of the pandemic.

The state has now surpassed 300,000 total COVID-19 infections and 18,000 deaths since the pandemic started ravaging New York in early to mid-March.
