New York farms produced 5.99 million bushels of wheat this year, down 23 percent from last year, according to final estimates of New York’s small grain-crop production from the USDA’s New York field office.
Acreage for harvest of wheat totaled 95,000 acres in 2014, down 17 percent from the previous year. The yield is estimated at 63 bushels per acre, down 5 bushels per acre from 2013, the field office reported.
New York’s oat production is pegged at 2.52 million bushels this year, 18 percent below last year. The yield is estimated at 63 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels per acre from the previous year. Harvested area, at 40,000 acres, was down 13 percent from 2013, the field office reported.
New York farms produced 376,000 bushels of barley this year, down 10 percent from last year. The yield is estimated at 47 bushels per acre, or 5 bushels per acre below 2013. Harvest area, at 8,000 acres, is unchanged from last year, the field office noted.
