GEDDES, N.Y. — The New York State Fair says it’s seeking candidates for summer and State Fair employment.

The State Fair is a division of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Full summer-employment opportunities are available in several departments. They include events, maintenance, and trades. Openings are also available in administrative roles, and internship types of positions are also available, designed for people interested in events, communications, and sponsorship-related fields. Those opportunities are classified as student assistants, per the state’s announcement.

For all of the summer positions, employment begins as soon as qualified candidates are determined and will continue through Labor Day on Sept. 4.

In addition, the State Fair is hiring for hundreds of positions to help staff 13 days of the State Fair itself, which begins Wednesday, Aug. 23 and continues through Labor Day. The department says workers are “most needed” in the areas of guest relations, security, safety, and transportation (tram conductors).

The State Fair is also looking to hire superintendents for the Talent Showcase youth talent show located at the Talent Showcase stage, as well as Pan African Village.

Brief descriptions of all open roles are provided in the application on the Fair’s website.

The State Fair notes that even though the positions are designed for the 13-day run of the Fair, work hours, rate of pay, and duration of employment “varies per assignment,” and certain positions may be needed before the Fair begins.

“We’ve all heard the adage that ‘many hands make light work.’ We are so grateful every year to have about 1,600 community members step up to help our team throw one of the biggest, most fun events in New York State,” Sean Hennessey, interim director of the State Fair, said. “From staffing the Great Potato Booth, to answering visitors’ questions in Guest Relations, to leading programming in key Superintendent roles like what we have available in Pan African Village and Talent Showcase, to Security and Tram Driver roles… There’s no way it would all come together without any one of these roles. If you’re interested in working for The Fair, we have a job for you!”
