NFIB New York says magazine gives NY business climate a ‘failing grade’

The publication Chief Executive ranks New York 49th in the country for its economic climate, and New York chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB New York) calls the ranking “a failing grade.”

The ranking is part of the magazine’s ninth annual survey of CEO opinion of the “Best and Worst States in which to do business,” according to the magazine’s website, ChiefExecutive.net.

Chief Executive ranked Texas first on the annual list. New York placed just ahead of California at the bottom of the rankings.

The best way to change perception is to change the truth, Michael Durant, director of NFIB New York, said in a news release.

“Despite all the slick television advertising and the star-powered endorsements, the truth is that New York remains one of the worst places in the country to do business,” Durant said.

The New York page on ChiefExecutive.net is filled with quotes from CEOs who cite the state’s “sky-high taxes and suffocating bureaucracy as big disadvantages,” the NFIB New York said in the news release.

The state needs lower taxes, fewer regulations, legal reform to eliminate “lawsuit abuse,” and the leaders in Albany to do more than simply talk about improving the business climate, Durant said.

Greenwich, Conn.–based Chief Executive Group, LLC publishes Chief Executive and operates the website ChiefExecutive.net.

The group works to “improve the effectiveness of CEOs and the organizations they lead,” according to the website.
