Nine graduate from pre-employment police training at Herkimer College

The college’s Pre-Employment Police Academy launched in the fall of 2018. Coursework covers topics such as criminal investigations, community relations, emergency preparedness, and defensive tactics.

Phase I is open to civilians and sworn police officers as an alternative to the conventional options for basic training. The program allows students to begin preparations for a career as a police officer prior to being hired by a law-enforcement agency. As a further benefit, the program provides those agencies and municipalities with a diverse pool of trained candidates.

“The men and women that are successful at completing this course have truly achieved something worth of being proud of,” Masi contended. “They have proved they are ready and competent to enter a career in one of the most noble professions.”

All nine graduates have already secured employment as police officers within a variety of departments including Herkimer County, Dolgeville, Little Falls, Canajoharie, St. Johnsville, and Seneca County. The officers will complete the remainder of their training with their departments.
