NY seeks proposals for flood-control surveying in Broome, Steuben, Schuyler counties

New York State is calling for proposals to perform $355,000 in boundary survey work on flood-control projects in Broome, Steuben, and Schuyler counties.

The surveying will help the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) maintain eight flood-control projects to meet federal criteria. It is set to be performed under Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s NY Works jobs program.

Survey projects in Broome County are scheduled for Binghamton, Endicott, Vestal, and Johnson City. Projects in Steuben County include sites in Corning, Canisteo, and Gang Mills. The Schuyler County surveying is slated for Montour Falls.

“Surveying work is important to bring the state’s flood-control projects into compliance with federal standards,” DEC Commissioner Joe Martens said in a news release. “The NY Works program has provided the means to ensure all of these projects are brought into good repair.”

The state has scheduled scoping sessions for prospective contractors on Aug. 28 in Binghamton. The New York State Contract Reporter has additional information available at http://bit.ly/5B7xXM.

A total of $56 million in NY Works funding is earmarked for maintaining flood-control facilities like levees, pump stations, and flood gates across the state. The state DEC maintains 106 flood-control projects. The Army Corps of Engineers has rated 91 of those projects minimally acceptable or unacceptable.
