SENECA FALLS, N.Y. — Dr. Frank Nicchi, president of the New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), will receive the title “president emeritus,” once he retires at the end of August.
The NYCC board of trustees “acted to bestow upon him the honorific title” after it learned he planned to retire, the school said in a news release issued Monday.
The status recognizes Nicchi’s “outstanding and distinguished service to the college, not only during his 17 years as president, but throughout his entire tenure,” Dr. Thomas De Vita, chairman of the NYCC board of trustees, said. Nicchi has served 37 years with NYCC.
“Dr. Nicchi’s extraordinary commitment and contributions to the college exemplify the highest standards of personal and professional integrity, civic responsibility, vision, and leadership,” said De Vita.
During Nicchi’s time as president, NYCC added master’s-degree programs in acupuncture, acupuncture and oriental medicine, applied clinical nutrition, human anatomy and physiology instruction, clinical anatomy, and diagnostic imaging, along with a bachelor’s degree in professional studies in life sciences.
Nicchi has been a member of the faculty of New York Chiropractic College since 1980, the school said.
Dr. Michael Mestan, who currently serves as NYCC’s executive VP and provost, will become its president once Nicchi retires.
