ALBANY, N.Y. — The board of directors of the New York State Association of Health Care Providers, Inc. (HCP) has appointed Claudia Hammar as interim president of the association, effective Jan. 1.
Hammar succeeds former president Christine Johnston in that role. Hammar will serve as interim president until HCP appoints a permanent successor later this year.
The organization announced the appointment in an email distributed on Thursday.

HCP is an Albany–based, statewide trade association representing home and community-based health-care providers.
Hammar has more than 35 years of experience in strategic marketing, business development, and communications in associations, high-tech companies, and advertising agencies, the organization said in the email.
She joined HCP in 2007 and became senior vice president in 2010.
As part of HCP’s senior-management team, Hammar has been responsible for driving strategic-marketing initiatives for the association, providing support for all public-policy initiatives, and driving all revenue-generation activities that support HCP and its affiliates, the organization said.
“Claudia’s extensive business background combined with her years on the senior management team at HCP make her uniquely qualified to lead the organization,” Susan Bayerl, who chairs the HCP board of directors, said in the release. “This is a critically important time for HCP and the home care industry, and Claudia has the experience and commitment to HCP and its members to provide the leadership the Association needs in these challenging times.”
Prior to HCP, Hammar was director of marketing & membership development at the Clifton Park, N.Y.–based Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State and senior account supervisor at Media Logic in Albany.
Her experience in the high-technology sector includes serving as vice president at Hurwitz Group in Framingham, Mass., associate director of corporate marketing at Cambridge Technology Partners in Cambridge, Mass. and senior corporate communications manager at MapInfo Corporation in Troy, N.Y., near Albany.
Hammar, a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, said she’s “honored” to have the appointment.
“I look forward to working closely with HCP’s board of directors, HCP members, and the home-care community to continue advancing the interests of home and community-based care during this time of transition and challenges for the industry,” said Hammar.
