GEDDES, N.Y. — New York State Inspector General Letizia Tagliafierro on Thursday announced the arrest of a mechanic who worked at the New York State Fairgrounds in Geddes on charges he stole a truck engine and a mechanic’s lift from a garage there.

Randy Ouimet, 42, of Warners, a trades generalist for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, was charged with two counts of petit larceny for stealing a used truck engine and an engine lift from a State Fairgrounds garage at which he worked, according to a news release from Tagliafierro’s office.

An investigation by the inspector general’s office found that on March 8, 2018, before other employees arrived at work, Ouimet, who at that time worked as a general mechanic, removed the used truck engine and an engine lift from a mechanics’ garage at the State Fairgrounds. Ouimet ultimately admitted to investigators that he took the engine and lift, the release stated.
