NYSERDA awards Syracuse firm funding for charging station installations

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today awarded EVPass of Syracuse $300,000 for the installation of 26 electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout New York.

EVPass will install the stations at retail shopping-mall parking lots across the Empire State, according to NYSERDA.

The funding is part of $3.6 million that NYSERDA awarded to organizations from Long Island to Buffalo to install more than 260 EV charging stations across the state.

The NYSERDA awards are part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement today that the state will install more than 360 EV and plug-in hybrid-charging stations statewide in support of his Charge NY initiative.

Charge NY, which Cuomo unveiled during his State of the State address earlier this year, is an initiative to create a statewide network of up to 3,000 public and workplace charging stations over the next five years.

The program also aims to place up to 40,000 plug-in vehicles on the road during that period.  The New York Power Authority (NYPA) and NYSERDA are spearheading the initiative, according to the governor’s office.

In support of Charge NY’s goals, NYPA today issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the installation of 100 electric-vehicle charging stations equipped with smart-charging capabilities to reduce EV charging demand on the electric grid at periods of peak demand.

Installers will place those charging stations primarily in the New York City area.
