SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse engineering firm OBG (formerly known as O’Brien & Gere) has acquired a North Carolina engineering firm.

Charlotte, North Carolina–based PENTA Engineering, P.A. focuses on the industrial sector with clients throughout the Southeast and Midwest, OBG said in a news release issued Thursday.

OBG didn’t release any financial terms of the deal.

The acquisition “supports OBG’s commitment” to growing its business across these regions and “specifically, its focus” on the design, construction, and commissioning of capital projects in the industrial-manufacturing market, the company said.

PENTA employs 80 people and has offices in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, OBG said.

The purchase fits the company’s geographic growth strategy.

“One of our key strategic growth initiatives is to expand our industrial manufacturing business across the Southeast and Midwest,” Jeffrey Rogers, OBG senior VP and leader of the company’s advanced-manufacturing business, said in the release. “PENTA’s extensive experience in chemical process, metals, and industrial engineering, together with OBG’s established experience in advanced manufacturing, energy, environmental, and wastewater engineering and integrated project delivery, will provide our clients a comprehensive set of skills to help grow their respective businesses.”

OBG is headquartered at 333 West Washington St. in Syracuse’s Armory Square area. It also has a manufacturing and technology-development center in Clay. The firm had 850 total employees, with 434 in Central New York, as of June, according to BJNN Research. The firm has 21 offices nationwide.
