OCC names Borsz new athletics director

ONONDAGA — Onondaga Community College today announced it has appointed Michael Borsz as its new athletics director.

He fills the position left vacant following the September death of Robert Edson.

Borsz, 32, served as the director of athletics at Wells College in Aurora in Cayuga County, prior to joining OCC. Previously, he worked in several roles at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., including as assistant athletics director and recruiting coordinator. Before Catholic, Borsz was an assistant lacrosse coach at Colgate University in Hamilton.

As OCC’s athletics director, Borsz is responsible for leadership, vision, compliance, operational management, and direction for the school’s 15 intercollegiate men’s and women’s athletic teams, the college said in a news release.

OCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and its teams have won 10 national championships over the past eight years. OCC’s men’s lacrosse program has won five consecutive NJCAA championships, and seven titles overall. It holds an active 70-game winning streak, the longest in the history of college lacrosse at any level, according to the college.

“Mike has a demonstrated commitment to the academic, social, personal and athletic success of student-athletes and is passionate about ensuring that student athletes succeed both on and off the field. We are excited to have him lead our athletic programs,” David Murphy, senior vice president of college affiliated enterprises at OCC, said in the release.

Borsz earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hobart College, where he was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team. He also holds a master’s degree in education administration from Catholic University. Borsz is a native of Camillus, where he also currently resides, and a West Genesee High School graduate.

“I am thrilled and honored to be the new Athletic Director at Onondaga Community College. I am fortunate to build upon the excellent and well-established foundation of the College’s athletics program, and I look forward to continuing the momentum and working with the staff, coaches and our student-athletes,” Borsz said in the news release.
