Oneida County COVID-19 hospitalizations fall nearly 70 percent from peak

UTICA, N.Y. — Oneida County’s COVID-19 hospital wards are emptying out, with hospitalizations down almost 70 percent from the high in early January.

From a peak of 177 on Jan. 6, the number of people hospitalized with the illness tumbled to 52 as of the county’s Monday update. The number currently hospitalized edged up to 57 on Tuesday, with 45 patients at MVHS and 12 at Rome Health.

Here are the other COVID-19 statistics, Oneida County reported Tuesday:

  • 37 new positive cases, 18,938 total.
    • 2 are nursing-home residents.
  • 860 active positive cases.
  • 0 new COVID-19-related deaths, 380 total
  • 5 patients are hospitalized outside the county
  • 17,698 positive cases have been resolved
  • 520,686 total negative results
  • 521,546 total tests
  • 860 are in mandatory isolation
  • 604 are in mandatory quarantine

Rome Health last Friday announced it is resuming limited visiting hours at the hospital, citing the declines in COVID-19 hospitalizations, infections, and the positivity rate in the county.
