Oneida County has first confirmed coronavirus case

UTICA , N.Y. — Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente, Jr. on Tuesday confirmed the first positive case of an Oneida County resident with the coronavirus (COVID-19).

The individual had traveled abroad and returned on March 12. After showing symptoms, the person was tested and quarantined on March 13. Oneida County says it received the test results on Tuesday morning. The patient remains in quarantine and does not need to be hospitalized at this time.

The county currently has 72 people in mandatory quarantine. Some have been tested and some are awaiting tests, Picente said in an afternoon news conference. The county was awaiting results on 59 tests, as of 2:40 p.m. It had received 13 test results so far from the state testing system, one of which tested positive for the virus.
