UTICA, N.Y. — Oneida County has appointed Shaun Kaleta as the county’s new director of economic development.
Kaleta started in his new role on Feb. 6 and brings years of government experience to the role. He has served as Whitestown town supervisor since 2016 and five years as a trustee in Oriskany.
Kaleta replaced Dave Catalfamo, who retired on Jan. 1 after serving nearly four years in the position.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work for the betterment of all Oneida County,” Kaleta said in a press release, noting the positive change and growth in the county. “Oneida County is not only open for business, but people are once again choosing Oneida County as a place to work, live, and have fun. While much has been accomplished, there’s potential to do even more. It’s an exciting time to be in Oneida County, and I’m looking forward to playing a role in its continued transformation.”
In his role as town supervisor, Kaleta has worked to create successful partnerships including the Sauquoit Creek Channel and Floodplain Restoration Program, the rehabilitation of the Utica Street bridge in Oriskany, the continued development of Wyman Park, and ongoing upgrades to the Whitestown Ice Rink.
Kaleta also spent several years working as a communication and public-relations specialist for the Westmoreland school district and Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES as well as an assignment editor and producer with WKTV NewsChannel 2 and WUTR/WFXV/WPNY Eyewitness News.
Kaleta hold an MPA degree in public affairs from the University of Missouri and a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from Utica University. He serves as vice president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Oneida County Justin F. Kelly Division, is a member of the Utica St. Patrick’s Day Parade Operations Committee, and a volunteer for the Irish and Polish nights at the Knights of Columbus William E. Burke Council 189. He is also a volunteer coach for the Utica University men’s tennis team.
