Oneida County reports first coronavirus death

UTICA, N.Y. — Oneida County on Tuesday reported its first death from COVID-19, but didn’t provide any details about the person who passed away.

The county now has a total of 46 coronavirus cases, including eight new positive cases in the last day, as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Of the 46 people infected, eight patients are hospitalized in Oneida County and two are admitted outside of Oneida County.

Oneida County says it has conducted a total of 604 COVID-19 tests, with 196 results pending and 362 negative results, in addition to the 46 positives. It says 288 people are under mandatory quarantine, 229 under precautionary quarantine, and 523 have been discharged from mandatory and precautionary quarantine.

The county also announced that all campgrounds and cabin colonies in Oneida County — as defined by New York State sanitary code — will be closed effective April 1 and will remain closed until July 1.

Any campground or cabin colony which has camping cabins, camping units, camp sites or campgrounds currently occupied, must be vacated by 5 p.m. on April 12, Oneida County said.
