Oneida County reports seven COVID-19 cases, two potential exposures, in weekend updates

UTICA, N.Y. — Oneida County reported seven new COVID-19 infections and two potential public exposures in its weekend updates.

The new infections bring the current case total to 2,165 as of Sunday afternoon.

The county reported five new cases on Saturday, two on Sunday, and no deaths reported either day.

In its Saturday update, Oneida County noted that “upon further investigation,” one positive case was removed from Friday’s total.

The Sunday update indicated five patients are hospitalized in Oneida County, including four in the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) and one in Rome Memorial Hospital. 

One person is hospitalized outside Oneida County.

Of those hospitalized in Oneida County, one is a nursing-home resident receiving acute care at MVHS.

Oneida County’s Sunday report also indicates that the county has 84 active positive cases and that 1,964 positive cases have been resolved. The county also reports 84 people are in mandatory isolation and 964 are in mandatory quarantine.

In addition, health-care workers have conducted 87,970 tests, with 85,805 negative results.

Potential public exposures

In its Saturday update, Oneida County also provided details on two potential public exposures to COVID-19 from Friday evening.

The first one happened at Ocean Blue Restaurant & Oyster Bar at 118 Columbia St. in Utica between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.  The individual was wearing a mask when not seated. The symptom-monitoring period for anyone who thinks they may been exposed is for a period through Aug. 28, Oneida County said.

The second potential exposure occurred Friday evening between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. at Bagg’s Square Brewing Company at 330 Main St. in Utica. The person was wearing a mask when not seated.

The symptom-monitoring period for anyone who thinks they may been exposed is also for a period through Aug. 28, Oneida County said.
