Oneida County reports three “nursing-home related” COVID-19 deaths in weekend updates

UTICA, N.Y. — In its weekend updates, Oneida County announced three additional COVID-19 deaths that were described as “nursing-home related,” bringing the county’s total to 61.

The county reported two deaths in its Saturday email and one death in its Sunday email to area media outlets.

In its Sunday email, Oneida County also reported 14 new positive infections, bringing the county’s total to 1,130.

Of the 1,130 positive cases, 49 patients are hospitalized in Oneida County and three are in hospitals outside the county. Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) has 39 of the hospitalized patients, while Rome Memorial Hospital (RMH) has 10, per the Oneida County email.

In addition, the county also noted that of the hospitalized patients, 38 are from nursing homes, including 30 at MVHS and eight at RMH. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has stipulated that nursing home patients can’t return to those facilities until they test negative for COVID-19.

Oneida County’s Sunday report also indicates that the county has 357 active positive cases and that 712 positive cases have been resolved.

In addition, health-care workers have conducted 24,739 tests, with 23,609 negative results.

The county also reports 617 patients are under mandatory quarantine; 420 are under precautionary quarantine; and 11,286 have been discharged from mandatory and precautionary quarantine, per Oneida County’s Sunday email.
