Oneida Health names new president and CEO

Felissa Koernig

ONEIDA, N.Y. — Oneida Health on Thursday announced it has appointed its next president and CEO to lead the organization.

Felissa Koernig officially started work as the health system’s new leader this past Monday. Koernig previously served as  president of Guthrie Corning Hospital in Corning.

It was also on Monday that Jeremiah Sweet, who had been serving as interim president and CEO, resumed his role as VP of finance and CFO, Oneida Health said. Sweet had been serving as the interim top executive since the departure of Jonathan Schiller, who left the organization at the end of May.

Schiller returned to Garnet Health in Orange County where he had worked prior to joining Oneida Health as president and CEO in 2022, per a March 15 announcement on the Garnet Health website.

“We performed an exhaustive six-month search across the country for the ideal candidate to move our healthcare network into the future,” Mike Kallet, chair of the Oneida Health board of trustees, said in the announcement. “We couldn’t be happier with our selection. The Board and I are confident that Felissa’s experience and expertise perfectly align with Oneida Health’s current and future organizational goals.”

Koernig comes to Oneida Health with more than 15 years of leadership experience in strategic and operational management in the nonprofit, federal, and private sectors.

Besides her work at Guthrie Corning, Koernig has served as senior VP/COO of Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Koernig had also previously worked as associate director/COO of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

She earned her law degree and MBA degree from Penn State University, Oneida Health said.
