Oneida man arrested for home burglary

LINCOLN, N.Y. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced it has charged Timothy A. Christman, Jr. of Oneida with 2nd degree burglary and four counts of 4th degree grand larceny, all felonies, in connection with a home burglary in the town of Lincoln.

On Thursday, at 5:17 a.m., a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a home on Oxbow Road in Lincoln for a report of a burglary that had taken place overnight. The homeowners said that while they were asleep, someone entered their residence, garage, and utility trailer and stole several items — a .270 bolt action rifle, multiple credit cards, electronics, and several tools. The homeowners also reported that their pickup truck was stolen from their driveway. The deputy on the scene put out a bolo (be on the lookout) report for the stolen truck.

At 7:55 a.m., a sergeant with the City of Oneida Police Department observed the stolen vehicle on Mount Hope Avenue in the City of Oneida parked on the side of the road. A male, later identified as Christman, age 31, walked from a nearby driveway over to the vehicle. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said further investigation discovered that Christman had driven the stolen vehicle and parked it on the side of the road.

Police searched Christman and found two checkbooks in his pants pocket. One of the checkbooks belonged to the victim from Oxbow Road and the other was reported stolen from the City of Syracuse. The pickup truck was searched and several of the stolen items were recovered from it, including the rifle and tools. Sheriff’s deputies took custody of Christman and towed the stolen vehicle back to the Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s investigators said they continued the investigation and discovered before Christman was apprehended on Mount Hope Avenue, he committed the burglary on Oxbow Road and then left two duffel bags of stolen tools and electronics at another home in Lincoln. The property in the duffel bags was recovered and identified as the stolen items from the Oxbow Road residence.

Christman was arraigned at the Town of Lincoln Court, where he was remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court on July 16, at 3 p.m. to answer the charges.
