Oneida Nation, Bassett Healthcare to open health-care facilities in Oneida’s Dreamcatcher Plaza

ONEIDA, N.Y. — The Oneida Indian Nation has started construction on two new health-care facilities in its Dreamcatcher Plaza at 2037 Genesee St. in Oneida.

Oneida Nation Health Services and the Bassett Oneida Health Center will both open in early 2016, the Oneida Nation said in a news release issued Thursday.

Together, both facilities will cover 7,500 square feet of space in the plaza.

Oneida Nation Health Services, which has been providing health care to Nation members since 1991, will relocate from its current location on Territory Road in Oneida.

The new facility will consolidate all of the Oneida Nation Health Service offerings into one location.

Its services include family health care, diabetes care and education, dental care, community health, and behavioral-health services, the Oneida Nation said.

“The new Oneida Nation Health Services will allow us to expand our healthcare options and continue to build on the excellent health services we’ve been providing Nation Members for more than two decades,” Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation representative and Nation Enterprises CEO, said in the release. “We’re equally excited that Bassett Healthcare will be opening a new facility in Oneida and bringing their network of services to the area.”

Besides the Oneida Nation facility, the project also includes the Bassett Healthcare Network’s Bassett Oneida Health Center.

It’s a new primary-care practice and represents Bassett’s second health center in Madison County.

The new facility will offer health-care services that include lab work, X-ray/imaging, and radiology services.

Bassett will also provide onsite laboratory and radiology services for Indian Health Services (IHS), new services not previously available to IHS clients, according to the news release.

The Bassett Oneida Health Center will be among more than two dozen community-based primary and specialty-care centers that the Cooperstown–based healthcare network operates in an eight-county region, according to the release.

The Bassett Oneida Health Center will be open to the public, along with Oneida Nation employees and their families.

Bassett “welcomes” the chance to help expand access to primary care in the region and to meet the needs of Nation employees and their families, Dr. Vance Brown, president and CEO of Bassett Healthcare Network, said.

“The focus in health care today is shifting to population-health management and preventive medicine, which aligns perfectly with Bassett’s patient-centered approach to care. At all of our health centers, a clinician-led team takes collective responsibility for each patient’s care. The emphasis is on continuous, comprehensive care that includes the coordination of care for people with chronic conditions. The goal is to help our patients get healthy, stay healthy, and assure they receive the services right for them,” said Brown.
