SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon on Wednesday announced that the application process is now open for a program that the county is calling the hospitality tourism-support initiative.

The $1 million fund is intended to provide direct funding in the form of a grant to the hospitality industry to “help stabilize and support our local hospitality and tourism infrastructure,” the county said in its announcement.

Funding is available exclusively for capital improvements, and the county will consider applications on a rolling basis.

“A core piece of our local economy is the tourism and hospitality industry. Onondaga County has become known nationally as a leisure stay destination and it is more critical than ever, that we help this industry recover and grow,” McMahon said in a release. “These funds will help our local business owners make necessary, and often vital, capital upgrades to their properties and Onondaga County is proud to be a partner in that effort.”

Interested applicants can visit the following website.

Citing Wayne, Pennsylvania–based Tourism Economics, Onondaga County said the tourism and hospitality industry generates $900 million locally, is responsible for 1 in 11 jobs, and provides $40 million in local taxes.
