SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today announced that Matthew Millea, who currently serves as deputy county executive for physical services, has accepted a job with the administration of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Millea has accepted an appointment to serve as deputy secretary of state for planning and development, Mahoney’s office said in a news release.
At the same time, Mahoney also announced the appointment of Mary Beth Primo as the new deputy county executive for physical services.
Primo most recently served as first chief deputy county attorney in the law department and as Onondaga County’s director of economic development.
Millea’s last day will be July 28 and Primo will start immediately, Mahoney’s office said.
Millea joined the Mahoney administration in June 2010 and participated in the development and implementation of four county budgets and “numerous” planning initiatives and capital projects throughout Onondaga County, according to Mahoney’s office.
“Matt did an excellent job for our community whether it was implementing Save the Rain or overseeing millions of dollars in capital improvement programs, he will be missed,” said Mahoney.
Mahoney also sees Primo as “very well qualified” as both an attorney and a county department head for her new role.
“Her managerial skill combined with her public and private-sector experience will serve the county well. Mary Beth is smart and hardworking and we are pleased to welcome her to her new role on our team,” said Mahoney.
