Onondaga County COVID-19 death toll rises by six to 75

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County reported six new coronavirus deaths on Monday, bringing its total to 75.

“Today’s another tough day,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said at his daily coronavirus briefing at the Oncenter in Syracuse. “We’ve lost quite a few members of our community to COVID-19.”

Of the most recent deaths, four involved people staying in hospitals. They include a female of unknown ethnicity in her 70s, an individual of another race in his 50s, a Caucasian male in his 60s, and another Caucasian male in his 80s.

The number who have died in hospitals now stands at 51, according to McMahon.

The county executive also noted that the most recent deaths include two people who were in nursing homes, citing data on the website of the New York State Department of Health. “I have no demographic information on [those two deceased individuals],” McMahon added.

Onondaga County now has 1,394 total cases of COVID-19, up 29 from Sunday. It was the fifth straight day of declining coronavirus positives in Central New York’s largest county.

Of those recovering from COVID-19, 55 are in a hospital, the same as Sunday. The county has 13 people in critical condition, up one from Sunday.
