Onondaga County launching vaccination-incentive program with clinic at Onondaga Lake Park

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County has partnered with 18 restaurants for a vaccination-incentive program that will begin with a clinic set for Friday afternoon.

The county will host a Johnson & Johnson vaccine pop-up clinic at Onondaga Lake Park between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Those attending for a vaccine will get a booklet with giveaways from 18 restaurants, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said during his Monday coronavirus briefing at the Oncenter.

The county will also host additional incentive-program clinics in the week following the Friday event, he added.

“The restaurants that give out the incentive … the incentives will expire on June 1,” McMahon noted in remarks about the program. “You get your shot. You get your coupon book.”

Besides the vaccination-incentive program, McMahon also reported two additional deaths from COVID-19. The deceased individuals, ages 85 and 72, bring the Onondaga County death toll to 704.

The county’s 7-day positive average is 0.9 percent, while the Monday average is 0.8 percent, according to McMahon.

He also reported 28 new virus cases on Monday, down from 103 Sunday and 43 Saturday. The number of active COVID-19 cases is down to 409 from 439 three days ago.

McMahon also said that 41 people with COVID are currently in a hospital in Onondaga County, including two in the intensive-care unit. That’s down from 47 hospitalized and five in intensive care on Friday, when he last issued hospital numbers.
