Onondaga County Medical Society installs new president

SYRACUSE — Dr. David Halleran is now serving as the 186th president of the Onondaga County Medical Society, the organization announced today.

The Medical Society on Nov. 18 formally elected and installed Halleran, a colon-rectal surgeon, during its annual dinner meeting held at the Holiday Inn Syracuse-Liverpool in Salina.

Dr. Halleran succeeds Dr. Ramsay Farah as president of the organization, the Medical Society said.

The Medical Society also elected a slate of officers that includes Dr. Dennis Nave, president-elect; Dr. Dan Vick, vice president; Dr. Richard Beers, treasurer; and Dr. Michael Iannuzzi, secretary, the organization said.

Founded in 1806, the current membership of the Onondaga County Medical Society totals 1,385 members, including 272 medical students, the organization said.

The Medical Society also recognized Gerald Hoffman, executive vice president of the society for the past 33 years, with its distinguished-service award, its highest honor.

Hoffman is set to retire on Jan. 31, the organization said.

Dr. Farah also announced the establishment of “The Jerry Hoffman Advocacy Award.” in recognition of Hoffman’s “lifetime of achievement,” the Medical Society said.

It’s a cash award that will benefit “a meritorious physician, resident, or medical student who has through their advocacy efforts served the causes of American medicine,” the Medical Society said.
