Onondaga County reports 2 COVID-19 deaths, 6 cases in last day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Onondaga County on Tuesday reported two COVID-19 deaths in the last day, bringing the county total to 182 since the pandemic started.

The victims were a Caucasian man in his 90s and a Caucasian man in his 60s.

The county reported that just six people tested positive for coronavirus in the last day from 1,453 tests returned, equaling a 0.4 percent infection rate. The number of new infections was down from 19 the day before. The total coronavirus cases in the county now stands at 2,582.

Four of the six virus positives reported Tuesday were affiliated with senior-living facilities or previously reported positive cases. So, just two were from community spread, Onondaga County said.

The county said 75 more people recovered from the disease in the last day, bringing the total recoveries to 1,972. The number of active cases fell by 71 to 433.

There are 39 people in the hospital with COVID-19, down from 42 the day before and down from the peak of 85 four weeks ago. Nine people are in critical condition, unchanged from a day earlier.
